The guest for this episode of actor Keith Randolph Smith, who is currently plays Doub on the touring cast of August Wilson’s Jitney. Directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Jitney was the 2017 Tony Award winner for Best Revival of a Play.
Set in the early 1970s, Jitney follows a group of men trying to hustle out a living by driving unlicensed cabs, or jitneys. When the city threatens to shut them down, emotions flare and you see the fragility of their relationships.
During our interview, Keith Randolph Smith shares how he got cast as Doub, how this story still rings true today, his career as an actor, and obstacles that black communities still face.
